A weekend skiing in Falls Creek

Last weekend Dave and I packed up the car and headed on the road to Falls Creek for a weekend of skiing, snowboarding and snowmen!

Falls Creek is Australia’s Premier all-season alpine resort. Victoria’s largest area for skiing and snowboarding in Winter plus 65km of groomed cross country trails. Outside of Winter Falls Creek offers a range of adventure and nature based activities including cycling, mountain biking, hiking, altitude training and water activities on the 200ha Rocky Valley Lake.

We stayed in Bright with a group of friends, Bright is approximately a 4 hour drive from Melbourne. We booked an amazing AirBnB that wasn’t far from both Falls Creek (1 hour and ten minute drive) and Mt Hotham (a little under 1 hour to drive).  Note that if you’re new to Airbnb, get $50 AUD off your first trip here.

I must admit that it was an expensive weekend, by the time you book accommodation, hire your equipment and pay for parking/ski lifts on the mountain I had spent almost $500. It was however, SO much fun! I have skied a few times before so it was great to get back and spend a day picking things back up from where I last left off.

What I really like about Falls Creek is that it has facilities catering for both advanced skiers and novices. It also has some great bars to chill out at on the mountain afterwards (Stringray and The Last Hoot).

Check out some photos from the weekend below:

I would definitely recommend heading out to check out the slopes that are driving distance from Melbourne, whether it’s Falls Creek or Mount Hotham you are sure to have a great time – just remember that it can be pricey so be sure to shop around for hire stores and cheap accommodation options.

Before you head off make sure you check the snow report here and also check out Falls Creek’s First Timers Snow Trip Planner.
