Sisterhood Series: A Catch Up With Kim Westwood

Shopping LinksToday I am excited to welcome Kim Westwood into the TWH Sisterhood! Kim is an amazingly talented and inspirational lady, she took some time out from managing her business Shopping Links to have a chat…

Tell me a bit about yourself and Shopping Links…

A little bit about me….I am a wife, a mother, a friend, a sister… I have two beautiful small children who think you can buy anything and everything online. They know our DHL delivery driver by name and think it’s Christmas as soon as he rings the doorbell. We have a very digital family. Without wifi I am not sure how we could exist either apart or more importantly together!

Shopping Links is my passion and something I started about 12 months ago now. Firstly, with the engagement of bloggers and more recently the opportunity for brands to post opportunities. Shopping Links is an online marketplace designed to make it easier for bloggers and brands to connect and collaborate. We’ve made it our goal to specialise in the identification and engagement of the world’s leading and most up to date Fashion, Beauty and Lifestyle Bloggers. Blogger outreach can be time consuming and costly, we want to make it easy and accessible for all brands!

Where did the idea of Shopping Links come from?

The idea for Shopping Links came from a series of coffee catch-ups and meetings with some leading International fashion brands and some of my favourite bloggers! Brands were asking me if I could help them find some Bloggers (initially in Australia) who might be interested to work with them and Bloggers were telling me that their most important part of their blog was their relationships and collaborations with brands. It made sense to provide a platform where brands could detail what they were looking for in terms of influencers and bloggers could respond if they were interested to promote the brand.

What is it that you love most about your job?

I am absolutely addicted to fashion and absolutely addicted to blogs! It is the perfect job for me. I just have to make sure I keep my blog browsing and shopping in check as I could literally spend all my time and money in the guise of working!

What has been the most rewarding thing that has come from running your own business?

It is super challenging running your own business. It is exhilarating and terrifying all at the same time. I get really excited one minute and then deeply concerned the next. The most rewarding aspect is when a brand sends me an email and tells me how thankful they are that I have built the site and how much it has helped them to find great bloggers to promote their brand both here in Australia and overseas. That has to be the best part of my job….making someone else’s job easier.

What setbacks or failures have you encountered and how have they helped shaped you as a business owner today?

Wow….I don’t know where to start! There are so many and still so many mistakes to be made! I am constantly learning more and more about running a business and more and more about myself. Each day is a steep learning curve in some way and that too is one of the greatest aspects of running my own business. Being out of my comfort zone has really helped me to grow and develop in ways that I could not have otherwise imagined. I now look forward to the next setback!

Who do you look up to for inspiration?

To be honest I don’t have any one single person that I look up to for inspiration. I have so many people, males, females and children that inspire me in different ways…whether it’s someone that dedicates time to training and running a marathon, someone who can juggle a career and being a parent, someone who can get up early after being awake most of the night, a child who reaches out to hug another…they are all inspiring. Then there’s those people that dedicate their lives to simply helping others…words can’t describe how inspirational they are!

Finish this sentence: To be happy and successful, a woman should…

…accept that not everything will be or needs to be perfect. Life is a journey and all aspects (good and bad) add to the complex tapestry that we call our life.
