Life Update and Long Weekends

It’s the Monday after a long weekend and I’m exhausted. But what a great long weekend it was!

Aside from a major blog update and a fresh new look, I spent most my long weekend catching up with great friends and family. On Thursday night I met up with some old school friends at a quirky little place on Sydney Road called Tom Phat. This place is so hip, yet another reason why I think that Brunswick is on its way to wooing me. It is a great spot for dinner, especially during happy hour when they have cheap drinks (from 5-7). The Asian/Thai food was great, the vibe was great, the staff were great and we even scored a round of free drinks from one of the bartenders, it was a really fun night and I would honestly recommended this little spot to anyone. I did hear that breakfast is where they really blow you away though, so I will be sure to venture back for brunch soon!

On Saturday night my sister and her husband came to Melbourne to stay with me and it was so much fun to have them here. We hung out at the Penny Black in Brunswick, drunk a little too much and ended up at a Salsa Dancing Club a few hours later. If you have never been to the Night Cat in Fitzroy then put on ya dancin’ shoes and make sure to bring a hat and your jazz hands. The Night Cat entertains its crowds with live music ranging from Funk to Hip Hop to World, but bottom line its all about DANCE! When we walked in the (free entry) door the live band was playing in the middle of the room and the place was buzzing. I read there that if you’re new to the dancing game, and are yet to solidify your swinging steps, there is a class that begins early in the evening around 7:30 that will teach you the basics of the groove. Mind you I probably looked like a fool swinging my arms and stepping on peoples toes so please know that no prior experience is necessary to join in on the fun! (If I can do it so can you.) No matter what your taste in music is, I promise you that the variety of the drums will keep those white smiles going until your feet give way.

We then woke up Sunday morning feeling a little sorry for ourselves so spent the morning shopping on Bridge Road and Chapel Street. THEN (yes there is still more to this eventful weekend) we ventured to the MCG to watch the Tigers get smashed by the Hawks, all in all it was one of the best weekends I have had lately and with even better company. I am really looking forward to my birthday in 5 weeks so they can visit again!

Wherever you were, or whatever you did I hope you had a relaxing/chilled/adventurous/crazy/fun long weekend. xo.
