How we spent the past 10 days in Auckland, New Zealand

We just touched down in Australia after a great little 10 day trip to New Zealand. We spent 10 days in Auckland, Kumeu and the beautiful Waiheke Island.

The main reason for our visit was for Dave’s sisters wedding, it was in Kumeu which is around a 40 minute drive from Auckland. It was such a lovely wedding, we had an absolute blast!

Dave’s family are New Zealanders and the Grooms family come from a little island off the Cook Islands called Niue. The grooms family handmade the beautiful Niuean traditional woven flax headpieces that the ladies in the family wear at special events – I was gifted one as the two families came together, it was such a lovely gesture and such a lovely wedding!

Auckland is a major city in New Zealand’s North Island, it’s one of my favourite places to visit as it’s where the majority of Dave’s family and great friends are. Dave grew up in Auckland and I love that when we visit we always spend some time exploring the area.

Waiheke Island:

We also spent some time on Waiheke Island which is the most populated and second-largest island in the Hauraki Gulf of New Zealand. It takes around 40 minutes on the ferry from Auckland to get to Waiheke Island.

Access to the ferry port is easy with the terminal just a short walk away from Britomart railway station and the bus exchange. There are also bus services from Auckland Airport to Queens Wharf every ten minutes.

My favourite thing we did at Waiheke was a winery tour with a company called Enjoi. The company picks you up from the ferry terminal in a luxury 12-seater mini-bus. I was impressed by the the attention of the local guide we had who knew everything about the island and its wines.

Included in the winery tour is:

– All wine tastings
– Pickup and drop off from the ferry or Waiheke accommodation
– Full commentary by local tour guides about Waiheke Island
– Includes four or more vineyards
– A 2 hour lunch break at an award winning vineyard

Overall it was such a great trip, I loved every minute of it! We will be back in New Zealand in November 2018 and I’m planning on putting together some more photo journals and guides of the area, stay tuned!
