Our rough itinerary: Backpacking around 20+ countries this year

I’m so glad that I have finally gotten a chance to write this itinerary down. Below you will find a rough plan of where we will be in the world this year and when.

Most of the destinations will be our first visit, so if you’re familiar with any of these places we would love you to send recommendations or travel advice our way. Do you have a favourite place to stay? Favourite restaurant? Secret bar? Must-do experience? We’d love to hear from you!

Fiji (April)

  • Nadi
  • Coral Coast

To kick-off our epic 2018 travel adventures we are starting with a family holiday (with Dave’s family) in Fiji! We will be in Fiji for two weeks. For the first week we will staying a few nights in Nadi and then backpacking down the Coral Coast. Dave’s family will then meet us in the second week and we will be spending a luxurious week at a beautiful resort on the Coral Coast.

USA (April)

  • Los Angeles
  • Santa Monica
  • Las Vegas
  • San Francisco

USA was never in our initial travel plans for 2018, however, after doing some research on flights from Fiji to London we found that the majority of flights had a stop-over in Los Angeles. We decided to utilise the stop-over and stay for a few weeks, especially because Dave’s little sister lives in San Francisco so we are super pumped to visit her and see what she is up to.

United Kingdom (May)

  • London

After spending a few weeks exploring the West Coast of USA we will fly directly into London on 28th April. We really don’t have any solid plans for travelling around the UK and are going to wing it, most of this time will be spent around London as we have to fly back to The States in a few weeks.

USA (May)

  • New York

We then head back to The States in May for two weeks as I need to be in New York for a work trip. Late last year,  I was elatedly named the ADMA Australian Young Marketer of The Year for 2017. The prestigious accolade not only celebrates talent; it rewards it with an all-expenses paid trip to New York that will be taking place in May 2018. In New York I will have the opportunity to meet with world renowned marketing and advertising gurus. I can’t wait for this trip and will be sure to share all of my adventures in New York on this blog.

The New York trip with ADMA is a week-long work trip, Dave will be coming along and we will then be staying for another week to explore around the city. This will be my second trip to New York and Dave’s first trip so I’m really excited to show him all the things that I loved when I was there last.

Travelling around Europe with Busabout (May – October)

We then head back to London towards the end of May and over to Paris to start our six month stint travelling with Busabout.

Busabout hop-on hop-off is the ultimate flexible travel network for travellers! The modern coaches link up 46 European destinations, allowing you to choose where you go and how long you stay at each place.

Check out the official Busabout trailer to get an idea of what it is all about:

Our rough itinerary for the European summer:

Through The Wild Hideaway, we have partnered with Busabout and will be travelling with unlimited passes for most of the European summer (from May – October). We will be stopping at almost every stop on the map below:

United Kingdom (October- November)

  • Ireland
  • Scotland
  • Wales
  • England

After our epic six months with Busabout we head back over to London and have around 6 weeks to explore more of the United Kingdom, this leg of our journey will be very spontaneous and we won’t be pre-booking much, the plan is to take each day as it comes.

New Zealand (November – December)

Dave is a kiwi so we are heading back for our friends wedding in November to catch up with his family and friends. We will then be in New Zealand for Christmas!

Then… who knows

We have no idea what our 2019 will look like and where in the world we will be. Stay tuned to see where we end up!

If you haven’t yet checked out this post, it will answer some questions you might have around how we have been able to do this: Why I quit my corporate job to work for myself and travel the world

Wish us luck…

I’m going to be ramping up posting here and seeing what I can make of this space. I’m hoping to share some of the things I discover about myself with you along the way as I make them.

I love sharing on this blog and I think it could open up a lot of insightful discussion. It’s also a great space to document all of our amazing adventures that lay ahead.

Are you willing to stick around with me to see what happens next? I have a feeling it will be entertaining and I promise you it will be honest.

If you haven’t already, follow along with The Wild Hideaway on Facebook and Instagram, I’ll be sharing the good, the bad and the ugly on here as well as there.

Here’s to a year filled with adventure, travel and learning… bring it on!
